We are looking for a competent, enthusiastic Prototyping Engineer to join our team. As an experienced Engineer, working alongside an experienced biologist you will be responsible for the technical development, assembly and implementation of new systems to improve the insect mass rearing production process.Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, technical guidance and support will be made available.This is a great opportunity to work for a pioneering biotech company.ResponsibilitiesAs aPrototyping & Fabrication Engineer, working with bio-technology experts you will be responsible for the technical development, design, assembly and testing of new aquaculture and mass rearing systems Source materials, develop designs, fabricate and assemble aquaculture and cage systems;Test and validate new systems;Work with bio-technology experts to develop systems;Investigate operational problems affecting mass rearing production – recommend and implement modifications and solutions;Work with other relevant departments to determine cost of goods at all stages of the process;Develop SOPs in conjunction with new technologies;· Successful candidates will have strong organisational skills and attention to detail in addition to being independent and self-motivated; · Skilled hands on work and problem solving are an essential part of the role.Key Qualifications and SkillsApprenticeship with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in a practical engineering position;Practical hands on Engineering skills working with a wide range of materials, e.g. stainless and mild steel, aluminium, thermoplastics etc;Experienced use of workshop type bandsaw, mill, lathe, thermoplastic bending etc turning, milling, hand and power tools etc.;· Ability to work both independently and in a team;· Knowledge of the biotech and/or life sciences industry and sector would be a distinct advantage;· Ability to build trust quickly;· Driven and proactive approach.Key Experience· Proven track record of engineering development successes in the life sciences or similar fields;· Proven successful delivery of small-scale engineering projects in the life sciences, food or feed, manufacturing, pharmaceutical or like industry.Behaviours· Creativity and innovation;· Results orientation;· Shows strong initiative;· Adaptability and flexibility;· Teamwork and teambuilding;· Analytical skills and problem solving.
